The Kitchen Fireplace Set

This whole set started because I wanted to recolor Sim Design Avenue's Castle Kitchen Fireplace.  However, when I looked at the mesh and how it was mapped, I couldn't recolor it the way I wanted.  It's only suited for solid recolors due to it's construction and mapping and I wanted various stone and brick recolors.  So what to do?...remesh and remap the whole thing.  As it turned out, the original was way too high in polys (6594 on 4 tiles) and there were quite a few errors in the mesh so I decided to start over and mesh a brand new fireplace from scratch using only the design of the original  for my new fireplace. When it was done to my satisfaction, I needed a "few" other things to make the fireplace a completely functional and period appropriate object. 33 meshes and 81 recolors later I decided I was done and this is the result:

There are a number of modded objects in the set, so please read this document carefully to understand how everything works.

The Kitchen Fireplace Main Objects

 Kitchen Fireplace:

1420 faces on 5 tiles...or only 284 faces /tile.  (That's a significant improvement over the original SDA mesh...6545 faces on 4 tiles or 1649 ).
Appears in the Catalog under Appliances/Miscellaneous for 200 Simoleons.
Two recolorable subsets, the fireplace stone and the mantle.
Includes 12 fireplace stone recolors and 12 fireplace mantle recolors.
Includes 9 decorative slots.  7 are on the mantle.  I also put 2 on the fireplace floor (I'll explain what these are for later).
Master file (Master-1)

Wood Box:

38 faces
Appears in the catalog under Decorative/Sculpture for 65 Simoleons.
Recolorable, slaved to the Kitchen Fireplace.
Includes 1 decorative slot.
Can be placed in the fireplace without cheats.

Slaved to Master-1

Woodbox Wood:

1848 faces
Appears in the catalog under Decorative/Sculpture for 25 Simoleons.
Snaps onto the decorative slots on the fireplace floor.
Recolorable

Kitchen Fireplace Oven:

814 faces.
Appears in the catalog under Appliances/Cooking for 25 Simoleons.
Two recolorable subsets, the stone and the metal.
Includes 12 recolors of the stone to match the Kitchen Fireplace.
Functional and Animated.
Can be placed in the fireplace without cheats.  Can also be used as a stand-alone oven.
I've removed the stovetop cooking functions from the object so it acts as an oven only.  You won't see your Sim trying to cook pancakes or chili with the oven.  They'll need a stovetop for that.

Fireplace Logs with Fire FX and "Warm UP" Option.

500 Faces.
Appears in the Catalog under Appliances/Miscellaneous for 0 Simoleons.
Snaps onto the decorative slots on the fireplace floor.
Height Adjustable with Apartment Life EP.

A bit of an explanation:  I've added fire effects to these logs and they will ignite automatically and remain burning.  They don't require any tending.  In addition,  I've added a "Warm Up" option to the logs.  They will actually keep Sims that are in the same room as the logs toasty warm.  If you want a faster warm-up, when your Sim becomes chilled, an option will appear in the log's menu to "Warm Up".  When selected, the Sim will approach the logs and do the "Warm-Self" animation that you've seen with fireplaces, except the Sim will actually get warm and also receive a boost in comfort.  Cannot be used outside.
Seasons EP or later is required for the Sims to experience cold temperatures and take advantage of the warming effect of the logs.

The Kitchen Fireplace Stovetop Cooking Options

I've removed the oven functions from all the stovetop cooking objects to prevent Sims from cooking oven meals in a non-existant oven.  Only meals that are cooked on a stovetop can be used with them.  To prepare meals that are cooked in an oven, you need the Kitchen Fireplace Oven.  All Stove Cooking Racks can be used as stand alone stoves.  Use either the Logs with Fireplace Animations or the Logs with Fire FX to have a fire under the racks.  The cooking Racks and the Cauldron are all cloned from a base game stove, but the footprint has been altered and the animations and effects have been translated to reflect that change.

Fireplace Logs with Fireplace Interactions Plus "Roast Sausage" option:

502 faces.
The logs were cloned from Numenor’s 2-tile Fireplace Template and has the same menu options as the TS2 fireplaces, but the footprint has been modified so they occupy only one tile.  The animations and effects have been translated to correspond to the modified footprint.

Finally I've added a Collection file with custom icon to make it easier to locate all the individual objects in the set.

An Explanation Of My Naming Technique For Meshes Using The Repository Technique

The master file will have the file name ending with the word MASTER followed by a number.  All the objects slaved to that master file will end with the word slave followed by a number corresponding  to the number used for the master for that object.  For example the fireplace is named RDN_KitchenFireplace-Mesh-MASTER-1.package.  The Wood Box is slaved to the fireplace and it's name is RDN_KitchenFireplace-Woodbox-Mesh-slave-1.package indicating that the Wood Box is slaved to the object that is master-1.  Likewise all slave-2 objects are slaves of the master-2 object.  This makes it easier to determine what master file to use to get recolors for specific slaved objects.

Some meshes in the set are meshes extracted from Skyrim and edited in Milkshape for The Kitchen Fireplace Set.

Everything should be Basegame compatible.  Tested in a vanilla game with all expansions plus M&G.  Files are Compressed.  If you experience any problems with any of the objects in this set, please don't hesitate to contact via email or in the comments area.

This is the first installment of the Kitchen Fireplace Set.  Future addition will add more objects to completely furnish a Medieval Kitchen.

  1. Absolutely awesome Ray! I've been looking for pot racks and hanging fireplace tools forever! No joke. One of my earliest wcif's at BPS was for hanging fireplace tools. Now that I have them all I need is a game that won't crash the second I click on Garden Center....sheeesh...why do we play this game? Huh???? LOL Anyway, thanks for the great set! Blessings, Katherine
